Now it’s official: the engine in the Volvo Polestar is class-leading. Putting Volvo performance at the top of their list, the Wards judges have chosen the 2.0 litre 4-cylinder engine in the V60 Polestar for the 2017 Wards 10 Best Engines trophy. The technology in the Volvo V60 Polestar engine benefits from all the development work on the highly successful S60 Polestar WTCC race car and, even in the production model, the 367hp engine can achieve an incredible 184hp/l.
WardsAuto editors spent two months in a real-world assessment of some 40 of the best engines in the world powering cars from top international motor manufacturers. The result was a win for the Volvo V60 engine, making it not only a car with a highly desirable coupe-like design and exhilarating driving characteristics but, in its Volvo Polestar form, the car with a fantastic engine too. The evaluation covered everything from performance and economy to noise levels and the use of innovative technologies. Commenting on the performance of the Volvo Polestar and how far Volvo and Polestar have raised the bar, the editors wrote: “It's a threshold never before seen in our competition”.
