An SUV that isn’t afraid to say so, the Volvo XC90 projects a sense of its true power. The strong shoulders and the bold, upright grille are traditional for the Volvo marque, but this sense of standing upright and maintaining a proud presence on the road is enhanced in the design of the rear, where Volvo has used strong vertical lines. Yet whilst the XC90 expresses its confidence, it is also subtle in its approach as befits such a first-class, luxury production car.
And the first-class approach continues on the inside of the Volvo XC90. The first thing you’ll notice is the sense of spaciousness. Three rows and a total of seven seats mean the XC90 can accommodate all your family and all seven seats are designed to accommodate adults too. What’s more, there’s a generous luggage space, extending up to 1,951 litres with all rear seats folded, or 1,816 litres in the T8 Twin Engine. But beyond the practicalities, get ready to experience what Scandinavian design and Swedish craftsmanship can bring, especially when combined with the luxurious materials used throughout the interior of the Volvo XC90. As the driver, you are free to relax, surrounded by the intuitive controls and displays that make driving the XC90 so easy. And driver and passengers can benefit from crystal clear air with Volvo’s CleanZone system, whilst enjoying crystal clear sound from the Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system with 19 speakers.
The Volvo XC90 offers four trim levels: Momentum, T8 Twin Engine, R-Design and Inscription. All four come with a superb specification, outstanding interior comfort and highly efficient engines.

Volvo has a reputation for safety and the XC90 takes that reputation even further, both in terms of its active and its passive safety systems. Naturally, it received the top 5 stars in its Euro NCAP safety test, but it excelled as the first car ever to score full points in Euro NCAP’s autonomous emergency braking tests. The range of systems available either as standard or as options for the XC90 is designed to give you total peace of mind in every driving situation; that’s why Volvo calls its safety technology ‘IntelliSafe’, intelligently preventing accidents and protecting you.
Safety systems available on the Volvo XC90 include:
Specify air suspension for your XC90 and all four wheels will have the benefit of Volvo’s electronically controlled damper system. Enhancing the comfort of every journey, the system also allows you to choose different driving modes to suit your personal style, or just how you feel for the day. You can opt for maximum comfort with the comfort mode, reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions with eco mode, choose dynamic or power modes to lower your XC90 by 20mm for a sportier feel, or when you’re off exploring, you can choose off-road mode to increase the ground clearance by 40mm. The system can also lower the rear of your XC90 by 50mm when stationary for ease of loading or attaching a trailer or caravan.
Choose between the twin-turbocharged diesel 235hp D5 with i-ART technology to increase fuel efficiency and responsiveness, and PowerPulse, which immediately activates the turbocharger as soon as you press on the accelerator, giving instant power from standstill and also at low speeds. Alternatively, choose the petrol 320hp T6, which benefits from both supercharging and turbocharging to give you the power you need when you want it. Both engines come with all-wheel drive as standard and an 8-speed
The top-of-the-range engine for the Volvo XC90 is the 407hp T8 twin engine. Featuring a supercharged and turbocharged 2.0 litre Drive-E petrol engine, and with its 87hp electric motor producing 240Nm of instant torque, this plug-in hybrid comes with a lithium-ion 9.2kWh battery. It offers a choice of modes for electric only at speeds of up to 78mph; hybrid mode, where the electric motor drives the rear wheels and the petrol engine drives the front wheels; or power mode, where both engines drive all four wheels for maximum performance. Other modes available are AWD and the off-road mode, which also initiates the electronically controlled limited slip differential for use on especially poor roads at speeds under 25mph.
